Middlefork

We drive further into the mountains
the silence still and soothing
our hearts beat to the same rhythm
the great hillsides and farmlands standing sentinel
as we cruise through their vast expanse
their natural wonder etching into our conscience
each passing view a bygone recollection
of passing images that remain with us
here is where it stays still
the lake to our left remains in its crystal frame
the towering mountains ahead of us stand guard
we’re allowed passage through this sacred road
we who can take a day away
from the chaotic jungle we hail from
have been granted entry into a beautiful secret
where the old stars die
and the young stars flicker anew.
